Sarvam partners with the Government of Maharashtra to deploy Indus across state departments

Officials will be able to do deep research across policies and precedents, produce first drafts of notes and replies, translate and summarise long scheme and policy documents, analyse data for patterns and exceptions, and turn scanned records into searchable text, working across 22 languages, including Marathi. The routine paperwork that fills a working day gets faster from day one.

Everything runs on secure, audited infrastructure located entirely within India. Government data stays in the country, on systems the state can inspect. That is what sovereign AI means in practice, and it is why this partnership matters beyond one deployment.

A government runs on the daily work of thousands of officials: the files, letters, and citizen requests moving through every department. Give each official an assistant that can research a policy question, draft a reply, and turn a scanned Marathi document into something searchable and usable, and that work moves faster. Multiply it across departments, and the administration itself starts to work differently.

Maharashtra is doing this at the level of the whole administration, not a single pilot in a single department. It is one of the first states in India to make that commitment at this scale.

The Indus rollout is the first step in a wider programme of work between Sarvam and the state, spanning voice agents for citizen outreach and speech technologies for public services. More will follow.
