PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Sarvam partners with Pixxel to power India's first orbital data centre satellite

India-built AI models will run on an India-built satellite, with both training and inference happening directly in orbit.

India's first orbital data centre satellite - Pixxel x Sarvam

We are excited to announce our partnership with Pixxel to power the AI backbone of India's first orbital data centre satellite. This is a first for the country. India-built AI models will run on an India-built satellite, with both training and inference happening directly in orbit, without any dependence on foreign cloud or ground infrastructure.

What makes this different

Most satellites today work the same way. They collect data, beam it back to Earth, and wait for ground systems to process it. That delay between capture and insight is one of the biggest bottlenecks in Earth observation. This mission changes that.

Datacenter-class GPUs in orbit

The 200 kg-class satellite will carry datacenter-class GPUs in orbit, the same generation of hardware that powers frontier AI training and inference on the ground.

Real-time inference in orbit

Sarvam's models will run on board, analysing Pixxel's hyperspectral imagery in real time as it is captured.

Insights without ground lag

Instead of waiting hours for raw imagery to reach a ground station, the satellite can flag a wildfire, track a crop disease, or monitor a pipeline leak in the same pass it observes them.

The satellite reaches orbit as early as Q4 2026.

Why this matters for sovereign AI

For us, this is the natural next step. AI infrastructure is a sovereignty question, and we have been building India's full-stack AI platform from the ground up.

Extending the sovereign stack into orbit

Partnering with Pixxel allows us to extend that stack beyond terrestrial infrastructure and into orbit. Having India-built models running in orbit aboard an India-built satellite is exactly the kind of foundational capability the country needs to control its own intelligence infrastructure.

No foreign cloud or ground dependency

Both training and inference happen directly in orbit, without any dependence on foreign cloud or ground infrastructure, creating a fully sovereign pipeline from observation to insight, end to end.

What comes next

The mission will validate real-time AI inference and data processing in the harsh space environment, testing performance, power management, thermal constraints, and real-time data workflows under operational conditions.

Validation

Performance, power, and thermal constraints

Testing model performance, power management, and thermal constraints under operational conditions in the real space environment.

Infrastructure

Real-time data workflows

Validating end-to-end data pipelines from orbital capture to actionable intelligence, without ground relay.

Foundation

Technical and commercial groundwork

The learnings will establish the technical and commercial groundwork for future orbital data centre systems.

Mission

Intelligence accessible everywhere

The goal has always been to make intelligence accessible to everyone, everywhere. Now, everywhere includes space. Proud to be on board this mission.
